"What's it all about?"
Primes is a program used to generate, through any means necessary, anywhere from 1 to 1,000,000 prime numbers. This was another one of my wonderful mentorship projects, as if you couldn't tell. The point of this project was really to show how to optimize a program and make it faster. First I had a crappy function that found primes by going through every number that ever existed and dividing it by every number up to itself. This was outrageously slow. I made small optimizations until my mentor told me to look for this thing called the Sieve of Eratosthenes, which speeds things up quite a bit. I went from taking about an hour and a half to make 1,000,000 primes, to taking around thirty seconds depending on computer. All in all, I'd say this is pretty successful.    For more information on this project, you can check out the actual worksheet that my mentor gave me, complete with little notes that he and I wrote on the thing. Caution: That PDF is somewhere around 6 MB and will remain that size until I find out how to make PDF's smaller, so it's only recommended if you have a broadband connection. Also check out the info that I found on the Sieve of Eratosthenes and see a live action version of it!
"Well, how far are you on it?"

So I've interested you, huh? Wow, that's a shocker. This program should run right out of the box. So knock your socks off kids!Primes: 18.8 KB
